Ginseng anti-age

Ginseng anti-age

When most people want an energy boost, they go back to the coffee pot or grab a sugary energy drink. Although coffee and energy drinks can do the trick, there are other options that might not be as likely to come with an afternoon crash.

Many herbs are considered to be energizing, but here are a few of my favorites.

n Cordyceps: Cordyceps mushrooms have a long history in Chinese medicine. Found in high elevations and known to be lung supporting, cordeyceps have recently become a popular energy supplement. Thought to enhance oxygen levels and cellular energy, many endurance athletes include cordyceps in their natural performance regimen and consider them a great long lasting energizer.

Matcha: Matcha is made from select green tea leaves that are ground into a beautiful bright green powder. I prefer matcha to regular green tea, due to the fact that you are getting the benefits of the whole green tea leaf. When you brew regular green tea, you are mostly extracting only the water-soluble properties, leaving behind other antioxidant properties and fiber. Instead of the quicker energy with regular green tea, many people describe a lighter, longer-lasting energy after drinking matcha. This longer lasting energy is probably due to the fiber of the whole leaf slowing down the absorption of the naturally occurring caffeine.

Instead of reaching for that energy drink or that second cup of coffee, give one of these herbs a try, and see if you notice their energizing effects.
